NANG YAI INFLUENCED SHADOW PUPPETS
Sat 29 Oct | 10.00am – 12.00pm | £12.00
Nang yai “large puppet” is an ancient form of shadow theatre from Thailand in which dancing puppeteers perform scenes from the Ramakien by presenting cut-out leather figures against a semi-transparent cloth screen. Influenced by this theatrical tradition and art form, participants will create their own shadow puppets based on their favourite book characters set in a small mobile theatre to bring home. Working on black card and paper to design and cut out your puppets, you will then explore techniques of light and shadow to bring your shadow puppet theatre alive. Using the skills learnt at the workshop you could continue your creative stories at home by adding to your mobile theatre with even more characters.
All materials supplied, but children are asked to bring their favourite book or images of their favourite characters to the workshop for inspiration.
