What's On
Due to an error in the EHOD information available online, there will be no access to the building at any other point aside from the guided tour time on Sunday. This tour is now fully booked.
Celebrating European Heritage Open Day, this special tour lets you see behind the doors of The Primate’s Palace in Armagh.
The beautiful neo classical building was built and served as residence to Archbishop Robinson from 1770. It was occupied by subsequent Church of Ireland Archbishops until the 1970s. Your guide will welcome visitors to this magnificent building providing you with a fascinating tour lasting approximately 75 minutes.
The Palace was designed by famous architect Thomas Cooley in the classical style. Your guide will share their knowledge of the building including the story of former Archbishop of Armagh, Richard Robinson 1765 to 1794, a colourful personality, often known as the Builder of Armagh. In addition, you will be treated to a feast for the eyes with the exhibition of the “Artist in Residence” local man J B Vallely, who has had a career in art and music spanning over six decades.

About EHOD 2024
This year’s theme for European Heritage Open Day is “routes, networks and connections – links in our heritage”. At the heart of this theme are the notions that our heritage, in both its tangible and intangible forms, is a reminder of how peoples, communities, countries and cultures have long been inter-connected, and how we continue to be connected, through common values, shared practices and a desire to protect and make sense of our individual and collective histories. As well as the physical routes that once connected us, so much of our heritage illustrates the mobilities of the past
