CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOPS AT THE JOHN HEWITT INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL 2026

Monday 27th, Tuesday 28th & Thursday 30th July | 2.45pm – 4.45pm | £80 for three-day workshop course 

  • Workshop course is delivered over three days.
  • Each workshop lasts two hours and all workshops are delivered at the same time.
  • Participants should attend all three sessions.
  • Tutors are experienced creative writing facilitators and published authors.
  • All levels are welcome.

Poetry: From the Notebook to the Page with Nessa O’Mahony 

Join experienced tutor Nessa O’Mahony for three writing workshops that will guide you through the craft of writing poetry. Classes will make use of closereadings of classic and contemporary poems as well as writing sessions aimed at generating new writing. The course will explore the craft of poetry-writing from getting started, developing a daily practice of writing and reading, through drafting and redrafting, to finishing your work. 

Nessa O’Mahony has published six books of poetry: Bar Talk (1999), Trapping a Ghost (2005), In Sight of Home (2009), Her Father’s Daughter (2014), The Hollow Woman on the Island (2019) and Dodder Daughter (2026). She has edited journals and anthologies, including the Poetry Ireland Review Issue 138 tribute to Eavan Boland and is an associate lecturer with The Open University.
