Every year, the Twelfth of July brings towns and cities across Northern Ireland to life with one of the region’s most significant and long-standing traditions. Marked by colourful parades, vibrant music, and a strong sense of community, the day offers a unique cultural experience that attracts both local families and visitors.
In 2026, Twelfth celebrations will take place on Monday 13 July, with events held across 18 locations: Aughnacloy, Ballymartin, Ballymena, Ballymoney, Ballywalter, Belfast, Castlederg, Cookstown, Glenarm, Killyleagh, Kilrea, Larne, Limavady, Maguiresbridge, Newtownhamilton, Rathfriland, Royal Hillsborough & Portglenone.
Rathfriland Celebrations
Rathfriland will host one of the key demonstrations, with around 15,000 spectators and participants expected to attend.
This year’s event will welcome distinguished guests including:
- Grand Master, Most Worshipful Brother Harold Henning
- Past Grand Mistress of Scotland, Sister Margaret Blakely
Members of Rathfriland District LOL No.3 will be joined by participants from across the region, including Lower Iveagh West, Newry, Loughbrickland, Gilford, Banbridge, and Lower Iveagh District. The parade will feature approximately 100 Lodges and 90 bands, creating a lively and memorable spectacle.
Event Timings & Route
- 12:00 noon – Parade departs from Assembly Field, Newry Road
- Parade route: Assembly Field → Newry Road → Lower Church Square → Upper Church Square → Main Street → Downpatrick Street → Castlewellan Road → Demonstration Field
- 2:45pm – Platform proceedings begin
- 4:00pm – Return parade commences
