Macha Alive Festival is a unique cultural and arts festival rooted in the ancient mythology, landscape and heritage of Armagh. Inspired by Macha, the powerful and complex female figure at the heart of the region’s mythology, the festival brings ancient stories into conversation with contemporary creativity.

Taking place at Aonach Mhacha in Armagh, the festival celebrates the cultural significance of Emain Macha/Navan Fort through a rich programme of music, storytelling, visual art, photography, talks, ceremony and community events.

Macha Alive creates a space to explore themes of identity, sovereignty, landscape, femininity, heritage and belonging and more connecting Armagh’s ancient past with its vibrant creative present.

At its heart, Macha Alive is about bringing Macha back to life not simply as a figure from mythology, but as an inspiration for artists, musicians, storytellers and communities today.
