Richhill: An historical journey from plantation to village

Richhill is a quintessential plantation village, its elegant square is anchored by a striking 17th-century castle that has long surveyed the surrounding landscape. Yet beneath this orderly façade lies a far older and more evocative identity. Known in Old Irish as Legacorry meaning “the hollow of the cauldron”. The village’s name hints at a place where events have converged, mixed, and transformed.

This conference brings together a range of expert speakers with specific research on Richhill and County Armagh and will explore the village history in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.
