Read on for some suggestions to get exploring this autumn:
For a quick walk, or one to suit little legs when you just need to get out, The Mall in Armagh is the go-to destination. A circular loop which allows for scooters, bikes and trikes as well, The Mall is a lovely place to relish the changing seasons and allow for conker gathering under the horse chestnut trees. In close proximity, explore Armagh County Museum, Royal Irish Fusiliers Museum and a little further stretch Armagh Observatory and Planetarium with exhibits of special interest for little visitors.
Located a short drive from Armagh, The Argory combines beautiful historic house, with scenic walks and a large estate to explore. An admission charge is payable, and it is advisable to check opening times before your visit, but it is an explorer’s paradise. There are a variety of walks of differing distances to suit all needs. Try the Lime Tree Walk or Lady Bond’s Walk for starters and weave around the river Blackwater.
Perhaps the most well-known park in the destination is Gosford Forest Park, a vast adventure playground for exploring, walking, cycling, playing, running, horse riding. The space is vast and the walks are numerous depending on how far you would like to stretch your legs. The deer are a pretty sight in autumn with the pretty trees changing colour as a backdrop.
For another city park, The Palace Demesne in Armagh is easily accessible with plenty of car parking. The trails weave around the demesne and stretch through trees, past a playpark and outdoor exercise options. The park is also used for Parkrun should you feel like upping your game! The newly opened, Dantes Deli at the Palace offers a great stop for lunch or a snack.
