“Happiness in marriage is entirely a matter of chance.” Marriage in the Georgian era was a mere convenience for rich men and a necessity for women and poor men – Jane Austin in ‘Pride and Prejudice.’ 1813. Join the Georgian Ladies of 1796 Armagh as they discuss (and gossip) about the predicament of Miss Cust and her lack of husband. What can be done? Are there any suitable young men in Armagh of the correct standing and income? Is she just too fussy? And why does she insist on indulging in the new fashion of reading novels that has appeared to have led her to the foolish belief that she can marry for love….? Please feel free to bring any suitable young men to our meeting in the comfortable Armagh Co Club as Miss Cust will be in attendance!
Should you have any access requirements, please mention during the booking process and these will be accommodated as far as possible. Please email georgianarmagh@armaghbanbridgecraigavon.gov.uk for further assistance.
