Flash Fiction in the Orchard

Flash Fiction writers will be reading their work to an enthralled audience at the Armagh Cider Company. The event will take place in the recently restored 17th Century barn and visitors can enjoy small bites of locally produced food accompanied with award winning ciders.

Readers are selected based on their submission quality and the evening follows a set programme.

Flash Fiction Armagh provides a platform for writers to experience immediate audience reaction to their work – a valuable resource for those who sit all day in a room by themselves writing.

We aim to entertain and provide an opportunity for audience and writers to mingle and make friends. We encourage people to attend the event whether they write, read or prefer to listen to good stories well told.

Submission process for writers:

The submission window for Flash Fiction Armagh in the Orchard opens on 15th June 2018 and closes on 20th August 2018.

Please email your 200 – 750 word submission within the body of your email (no attachments please) to Please put Flash Fiction Armagh in the Orchard as your subject title.

Entries are encouraged from:

  • Experienced writers
  • New writers
  • Authors who can extract a short section from their books that feels complete.
  • Irish Language writers.
  • Ulster-Scots writers.
  • Poets whose poetry reads like prose

Réamonn Ó Ciaráin, Armagh author of Laoch na Laochra: Scéal Chúchulainn, and Chúchulainn: Ulster’s Greatest Hero, will help Byddi Lee curate the submissions.
