Malachi O’Doherty returned to India in 2018, his first trip back after spending four years there in the 1970s. He travelled round the north of India with a camera, stopping to talk to people, snapping images of strangers: those living on the street in Delhi to labourers in Kolkata and farmers in the Punjab.
Malachi O’Doherty is a writer, broadcaster and photographer living in Belfast. His books cover works of memoir and discussions on politics and culture. He is the author of ‘Fifty Years On’, published this year by Atlantic Books and of a novel to be published early next year by Merrion Press. Dr O’Doherty is a current recipient of a Major Artist award from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. This award funded his trip to India for research for another book and the photographs featured in this exhibition are a by-product of that research.
This exhibition is supported by Andras Hotels.
