On this two-day course you will weave with home grown willow varieties to create a shallow oval basket for use in the garden. The design will be a split oval base which will be woven pairing and reverse pairing. You can choose to make your basket shallow for gathering flowers or with slightly higher sides for use in the garden. Packing is added to achieve an elegant rise just next to the handle. The basket is topped off with a simple 5 rod border and a low wrapped handle.

Basketmaking is a very physical activity and therefore requires reasonable stamina which allows for standing up for an extended period, bending down, applying pressure with fingers and hands. You will also have the use of very sharp tools throughout the day’s work.

Please note previous basketmaking experience highly recommended. This workshop is suitable for intermediate and advanced level only.
