Autumnal Adventures: Family-Friendly Activities

If you are trying to find some inspiration as to what to do this autumn to keep the family entertained, then we’ve got some suggestions to make your life that little bit easier. Just pack the picnic and load the car and enjoy your time together.

Prepare for Halloween by making your own broomstick at Navan Centre and Fort. At the workshop on 12 October discover the ancient techniques used to create a besom broom.

Navan Centre and Fort also plays host to Little Spooks on 26-31 October. All ghosts, goblins, witches and wizards will find a place of fun with a stage show – “The Ghost who lost his Boo” followed by fun and games.  Tickets are available to purchase online.

For ‘fang-tastic’ fun, check out the Armagh County Museum on 26 October!  Discover Halloween traditions from the past and have a go at making some seasonal crafts.  This year Talking Reptiles will make an appearance bringing with them snakes, spiders, minibeasts and much more. This is a reptile experience not to be missed! Tickets can be purchased online with two slots to choose from to suit the family.

Learn more about apples at Apple Sundays held at Ardress House. Right in the heart of orchard county, time at Ardress will enable you to learn more about apples – pick apples, press apples and bring your best apple baking for a chance to win a prize! Admission charge applies and the event takes place on 6, 13, 20 October.

The Argory also offers a week of Halloween fun with spooky spiders and creepy crawlies who have taken over! Running from 26-31 October learn more about bugs, go on a pest quest and try the spider’s maze!

The Market Place Theatre offers fun workshops suitable for children. Try your hand with Monster Buns: Cupcake Decorating in early November, or Bot Joy, making robots in early October. Make your robot as quirky and individual as you can; your imagination is the only thing holding you back! Make a Mystical Night Owl on 8 November using different markers and pens to create an amazing owl. All tickets can be purchased online.

If there is a speed demon in your house, try Gosford Karting for high adrenaline kart racing. Suitable for age 8 plus, arrive and drive on the purpose-built track.

Armagh Observatory and Planetarium offers a great day out for the family, learning more about space and our planet from the dome shows and interactive exhibitions.

Go bouncing at Infinity Adventure Park, located just outside Banbridge. See who can jump the highest and challenge each other over the battle beam and generally have loads of fun. A good option for a rainy day!

If you like to balance your indoor with your outdoor activities, don’t forget the wide-open spaces of parks and green expanses with Gosford, Loughgall, Solitude Park, Craigavon Lakes all open and vast with playparks ready to be explored, dens and more to be made and the changing season of autumn to be admired.
