What's On

Saturday 9 August | 10am – 3pm | £35
Dating back many thousands of years, Chinese brush painting is one of the oldest continuous artistic traditions in the world. Chinese painters use a traditional brush dipped into black ink, or colour on special paper or silk.
At this introductory class under the guidance of artist Paul King you will learn about and use the four treasures which are the brush, ink, paper and ink stone. Learn how to hold and paint with Chinese brushes, grind ink and paint on rice paper. Subjects to paint include bamboo and plum blossom, birds such as sparrows and kingfishers.
In Chinese culture the painter aims to capture the life and spirit of the subject, making it live through the brush of the painter and the eyes of the viewer. This relaxed workshop will allow you paint freely as you create a range of test works, leading up to a finished piece.
