Join Heather McDermott Willow Craft for a very special day crafting your own adult sized Besom Broom using beautiful materials sourced sustainably from small native forests including coppiced Silver Birch and Hazel from Navan Fort.

You will be working outside in the elements for part of the day using fire and sandstones so please dress for warmth and comfort.

You will learn about the history and lore of the Besom broom and how it could have been used in our roundhouses more than 2000 years ago.

Heather will guide you through the various processes including carving and whittling your own broom stick using locally foraged & sustainable wood, the use of axes, whittling tools and firepits as well as the application of special salves alleged to have protective qualities, warding off negative energy or spirits from your homes!

Suitable for ages 16+ only – separate children's workshops taking place on Saturday 12th October.
