Sean Morgan-Rooney: Lunchtime Recital

Saturday 18 January | 1.15pm | £12 | £10 (concession) £6 (student)

Pianist Seán Morgan-Rooney, originally from County Down, has a varied performing career as a soloist and chamber musician. In the past year, he has travelled to Iceland to perform contemporary music with the Caput Ensemble, to Japan to perform with his violin duo partner Bas Treub, and to Canada to develop his own interdisciplinary performance project at the Banff Centre.

Seán is the winner of several prizes for his playing. In 2015 he won the Brennan Prize for the highest placed Irish competitor at the 10th Dublin International Piano Competition. Following this, he released a debut album and appeared as a concerto soloist with several of Ireland’s major orchestras.

Two tales of romance come together in this recital of Schumann and Prokofiev: Schumann’s monumental Fantasy in C major, a musical outpouring to his beloved Clara Wieck, meets Prokofiev’s melancholic, whimsical take on the romance-defining tale of Romeo and Juliet. Coming in the middle of these two works is Unsuk Chin’s fantastical etude ‘In C,’ inspired by Balinese gamelan music and serving as a ‘harmonic reset’ between two harmonic worlds.

This event takes place in our Studio Theatre with an unreserved, tiered seating layout.

Diona Doherty – Get Your Pink Back!

Friday 13 June | 8pm | £15

Diona Doherty (The Blame Game/Derry Girls/Soft Border Patrol) is trying to get her pink back.

Just like flamingos, whose pink colour has been drained by the stresses of motherhood, Diona is on a mission to find out who the hell she is after having kids.

A new stand up show from Diona Doherty, filled with hilariously relatable anecdotes and whole lot of brutal honesty.
