Prime Cut Productions, Ireland’s leading independent and award-winning theatre company, return with their critically acclaimed new version of Jean Cocteau’s ‘The Human Voice’, by Darren Murphy. Directed by award-winning Emma Jordan (Little Brother, The Pillowman, The Beauty Queen of Leenane) and starring Nicky Harley, (The Beauty Queen of Leenane, Dancing at Lughnasa), in a performance described as “fabulous” and “riveting” this new version is a radical reimagining of Cocteau’s work, “an impeccable piece of theatre”

It is a contemporary Belfast story of a woman juggling love and work, as emotional and psychological demands on her time from a desperate client interrupts the devastation of her final call with the lover who abandons her. Pushed to her limits, she must negotiate a treacherous path between her private and public worlds. Heartache is not the aching, luxurious business it used to be.

This performance contains some strong language and adult themes. Suitable for age 16+.

The Trial of Arthur Chichester

In this immersive, historical courtroom drama, Sir Arthur Chichester (1563–1625), Governor of Carrickfergus Castle, founder of Belfast, Lord Deputy of Ireland, and Admiral of Lough Neagh, is called from the grave to answer the charge that, in winning the Nine Years War (in Ulster), he was guilty of crimes against humanity and treason against Ireland.
In this courtroom drama, the prosecutor is John Mitchel (1815– 1875), an unrepentant, physical force Irish republican, American Confederate and enthusiastic supporter of slavery. The defence lawyer is Thomas D’Arcy McGee (1825–1868), failed Irish rebel, British loyalist, and founding father of Canada.
Sir Faithful Fortescue (c.1581– 1666) who fought in the Nine Year’s War and received land for his service is called to defend Sir Arthur Chichester. Elish O’Neill, who thwarted Chichester’s attempt to hang her husband and take his land is the witness for the prosecution. The shades are aware of what has happened since they died and comment accordingly.
In this humorous, informative and challenging play the audience is the jury.
