Maurna Crozier Memorial Bursary

The Friends of the F.E. McWilliam Gallery & Studio invite professional visual artists born in, or resident in, Northern Ireland, to apply for a two-week residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig, Co. Monaghan. The Bursary covers two weeks’ full board accommodation in the Big House, use of a studio and £200 expenses.

The bursary was established in memory of Dr Maurna Crozier (1942 – 2015) who was a founding member of the Friends of the F.E. McWilliam Gallery, a member of the F.E. McWilliam programming committee and a board member of the Tyrone Guthrie Centre. Maurna had a lifelong commitment to enlarging cultural life in Northern Ireland. She served on the boards and committees of many of Northern Ireland’s major cultural institutions, including: the Arts Council of Northern Ireland; National Museum NI; Northern Ireland Museums Council; the Linen Hall Library; the Historic Monuments Council and; the Crescent Arts Centre.

The bursary is open to professional artists in all visual arts disciplines, living in, or resident in Northern Ireland. There is no age limit.
Interested artists are asked to submit a proposal detailing in less than 1000 words, a specific project for which they require the bursary and residency at Annaghmakerrig. Applicants are also asked for an up-to-date CV and 5 images of recent work.

Guidance Notes

The bursary is open to professional artists in all visual arts disciplines, born in, or resident in Northern Ireland. There is no age limit.

Applicants should show significant achievement in their chosen field by providing supporting evidence appropriate to their discipline. For example: they should have had at least one solo exhibition in a reputable gallery. Otherwise, the applicant must demonstrate a high degree of promise attested by references from established figures in the arts.

Applicants should state clearly what they wish to accomplish during their stay at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre. This proposal outline should demonstrate that the artist is working towards a specific goal which will be helped by a stay at the centre.

Interested artists should submit a proposal detailing in less than 1000 words, a specific project for which they require the bursary and residency at Annaghmakerrig. Please also include an up-to-date CV and 5 images of recent work. Applications will be accepted by email or by post before midnight on the closing date.

Applicants who were successfully awarded a bursary to the Tyrone Guthrie Centre from the Friends of the F.E. McWilliam Gallery in the previous awarding year (1 April to 31 March) cannot apply for the incoming financial year.

The successful applicant for the incoming year must use their award to visit the Tyrone Guthrie centre before the end of that financial year.

Applications go before a selection panel made up of representatives from the Friends of the F.E. McWilliam Gallery Committee. Successful applicants will be notified by email usually within a few days of the decision. Applications should be sent to:
